Signs of an exit from the coronavirus crisis

Having received open data on the state of the energy system for the first five months of the current year, we can draw conclusions about the gradual recovery of the economic situation:
Increase in production by 6%
Electricity production in the unified energy system (UES) of Ukraine in January-May 2021 increased by 6% (by 3 billion 735.2 million kWh) compared to the same period in 2020 – to 66 billion 305.2 million kWh hours, according to data from the Ministry of Energy.
According to the calculations of the Interfax-Ukraine agency, nuclear power plants (NPPs) increased their electricity production by 4.2% in five months – up to 35 billion 800.9 million kWh.
Thermal power plants (TPP), as well as thermal power plants (TPP) and cogeneration plants (CHP) increased production by 0.6% – up to 20 billion 412.2 million kWh. Including, TPP generation companies increased production by 5.3% – to 15.118 billion kWh, while CHP and KU – decreased by 10.9%, to 5 billion 294.2 million kWh.
Hydro- and hydro-accumulating power plants (HaPP and HAES) increased production by 72.4% to 4 billion 909.4 million kWh, while block stations decreased by 9.4% to 725.8 million kWh.
Production of electricity from non-traditional sources (WPP, SPP, biomass) increased by 4.3% – up to 4 billion 456.9 million kWh.
Increase in consumption by 6.7%
Electricity consumption in Ukraine in January-May 2021, taking into account technological losses in networks, increased by 6.7% (by 4 billion 162.8 million kWh) compared to the same period in 2020 – to 65 billion 912.8 million kWh, according to data from the Ministry of Energy.
According to the calculations of the agency “Interfax-Ukraine”, without taking into account technological losses, electricity consumption increased by 8.2% (by 4 billion 73.1 million kWh) during the specified period – to 53 billion 760.5 million kWh.
The country’s industry, excluding technological losses, increased electricity consumption by 7.3% – up to 21 billion 708.8 million kWh. Including, the metallurgical industry consumed 11 billion 852.5 million kWh (+ 4.6% to January-May 2020), fuel – 1 billion 397.3 million kWh (+ 3.9%), machine building – 1 billion 611.9 million kWh (+ 18.7%), chemical and petrochemical – 1 billion 829.8 million kWh (+ 12.1%), food and processing – 1 billion 745.5 million kWh h (+ 1%), construction materials – 1 billion 24.5 million kWh (+ 22.5%), other – 2 billion 247.4 million kWh (+ 12.4%).
In addition, agricultural enterprises consumed 1 billion 444.5 million kWh (+ 0.9%), transport – 2 billion 618.8 million kWh (+ 8.2%), construction – 501.1 million kWh (+ 23.8%).
The country’s population consumed 17 billion 468.5 million kWh (+ 7.5%) in five months of this year, utility consumers – 6.384 billion kWh (+ 8.1%), other non-industrial consumers – 3 billion 634.7 million kWh (+ 18.8%).
